A man from Gloucester County, New Jersey, has been sentenced to six years in prison for his involvement in narcotics trafficking and firearms offenses. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger.
Javier Osorio, aged 44, from Deptford, New Jersey, was found guilty on July 19, 2023. He faced charges of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute heroin and cocaine, possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Brian R. Martinotti on October 29, 2024, in Newark federal court.
Court documents reveal that Osorio conspired with others to distribute cocaine and more than one kilogram of heroin found in his apartment. He was arrested while traveling with conspirators from New Jersey to Brooklyn intending to sell additional heroin recovered from their vehicle. A loaded stolen firearm was also discovered under Osorio’s mattress.
In addition to the prison term, Judge Martinotti imposed three years of supervised release on Osorio.
U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger acknowledged the efforts of special agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration led by Special Agent in Charge Cheryl Ortiz for their role in the investigation leading to the conviction. Thanks were also extended to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office under Prosecutor Esther Suarez's direction.
The prosecution team included Assistant U.S. Attorney George L. Brandley from the Health Care Fraud Unit and Assistant U.S. Attorney Kendall Randolph from the Organized Crime/Gangs Unit based in Newark.
This case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation aimed at identifying and dismantling top-level criminal organizations threatening the United States through a coordinated multi-agency approach led by prosecutors using intelligence-driven strategies.
