229 coaches at institutions in Essex County earned $55,061 on average in 2022

Essex County’s 229 coaches earned an average salary of $55,061 in 2022, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

This is the sixth highest average salary per county earned by coaches at New Jersey post-secondary schools during 2022.

Essex County is home to six post-secondary schools that paid coaches during 2022. Among them, Seton Hall University stood out with the highest average coaching salary of $295,371.

Male coaches of men's teams received $142,637 on average in Essex County, while female coaches in charge of women's teams earned an average of $54,454.

Research from the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management found NCAA coaches are compensated like CEOs, with top coaches earning more than $1.5 million annually.
