The New Jersey Devils have signed forward Luke Glendening to a one-year, one-way contract valued at $775,000. The announcement was made by President and General Manager Tom Fitzgerald. Glendening had previously joined the team on a professional tryout basis before training camp began in September.
Glendening, who is 36 years old, played the last two seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning. During his time with Tampa Bay, he led all skaters on the team in face-off percentage at 57.0 percent last season and ranked fifth in hits with 105. He has played a total of 864 regular-season games for Detroit, Dallas, and Tampa Bay, recording 166 points (83 goals and 83 assists) along with 308 penalty minutes.
The Grand Rapids, Michigan native brings significant playoff experience to New Jersey. He has appeared in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for four consecutive seasons while playing for both Tampa Bay and the Dallas Stars. Since the 2013-14 season, Glendening has participated in 50 playoff games, scoring six goals and adding four assists. In addition to his NHL career, he won a Calder Cup championship in 2013 with Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League.
During New Jersey’s preseason this year, Glendening played in six out of seven games and recorded two points (one goal and one assist).
