Gustav Hillstrom, a center drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the fourth round (114th overall) of the 2025 NHL Draft, is set to continue his development with Brynas next season. Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 176 pounds, Hillstrom made his professional hockey debut in the 2024-25 season at age 17. He played 18 games for Brynas in Sweden’s top league (SHL), recording one goal and one assist. In addition, he appeared in 43 games for Brynas’ junior team (SHL J-20), scoring 16 goals and registering 22 assists for a total of 38 points.
Hillstrom learned about being selected by New Jersey while attending his uncle’s wedding on draft day.
Speaking about his style of play, Hillstrom said: “I’m a two-way centerman that can play all kind of (situations), power play, box play, pretty reliable.”
