Mason Moe, a native of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, is set to join the University of Minnesota Gophers hockey team next year. Moe has been deeply connected to Minnesota sports since childhood, having attended University of Minnesota Gophers hockey and football games. “I kind of grew up going to the University of Minnesota hockey and football games,” he stated. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to play for the Gophers in the fall.
Recently, Moe was selected by the New Jersey Devils in the third round (90th overall) of the 2025 NHL Draft held at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater. Speaking about his selection, Moe shared via Zoom, “A lot of excitement and built-up emotion, obviously… just hearing your name called is a super exciting, surreal feeling.”
The 6-foot-2-inch power forward played with both the United States National Team Development Program and Madison Capitals in the USHL last season. In 51 games with Madison, he scored 17 goals and accumulated 43 points. Reflecting on his performance, Moe noted that his focus was on improving his overall game as a center. “Playing at the Madison Capitals… my biggest focus was improving my overall game and 200-foot game as a center especially,” he said.
Moe’s efforts have established him as one of the top two-way forwards in the USHL. He emphasized playing away from the puck and positioning himself correctly as key aspects of his development: “As a center, it’s important to stay in the middle of the ice… I was watching film a lot and worked on that.”
During postseason play, Moe excelled by scoring five goals in six games. Despite not achieving their ultimate goal, he acknowledged good teamwork with linemate Riker Lee: “Especially my linemate (first-round selection) Riker Lee, and I just started clicking well in playoffs.”
Moe’s internal drive fuels his ambition to succeed: “I love to win, hate losing… I’ll improve my weaknesses as a player.” His focus remains on winning championships while continually enhancing his skills.
