Featured Park: Essex County South Mountain Recreation Complex! The South Mountain Recreation Complex is nestled along Northfield Avenue and Cherry Lane in West Orange. The complex features a variety of recreation opportunities including Turtle Back Zoo, Codey Arena, TreeTop Adventure Course, MiniGolf Safari, the children’s Regatta Playground, paddle boating, a 1.7 mile walkway, and the Clipper Pavilion picnic shelter. 

The Complex is adjacent to the South Mountain Reservation, a 2,000 acre natural reserve that offers open space, picnic areas, barbecue sites, hiking trails, and more. Turtle Back Zoo is a 20-acre AZA-accredited facility that is home to about 1,400 animals. Codey Arena is open to the public for skating, group skating lessons, learn to skate lessons, private ice skating parties, along with figure skating sessions and ice hockey camps and clinics. Safari MiniGolf is an award-winning 19-hole course. The Waterfront provides access to the children’s Regatta Playground, paddle boating during the summer, a 1.7-mile reservoir walking path, and the Clipper Pavilion picnic area. The TreeTop Adventure Course is a world-class aerial obstacle course and zip line.
