The New Jersey Devils concluded their participation in the 2025 Prospects Challenge at Buffalo’s LECOM Harborcenter with a 2-1-0 record. The team secured an 8-2 win against Columbus on Thursday, followed by a 4-2 victory over Buffalo on Friday, and ended with a 6-4 loss to Boston on Sunday.

Several players drew attention during the tournament. Shane Lachance was notable for his physical presence and performance, scoring two goals and adding an assist in two games. He also made significant defensive plays and engaged physically to support teammates. Lachance scored a goal from the goal line against Columbus and added another with quick reflexes against Buffalo. His play is expected to strengthen his case for making the NHL roster as training camp opens Wednesday.

“Shane down low is a PROBLEM,” stated the official New Jersey Devils account.

Lenni Hameenaho also attracted interest within the organization and among fans. The Finnish forward, who led his Liiga team Assat with 20 goals and 51 points last season, made his first appearance in a Devils uniform during the challenge. Hameenaho has increased his strength over the past two years and used it effectively during play, notably maintaining puck control after absorbing a strong hit before scoring against Buffalo. He will compete for an NHL roster spot but may spend time in Utica to adjust further to North American hockey.

“It’s Lenni’s world. We’re just living in it,” according to the New Jersey Devils’ statement.

Matyas Melovsky centered the top line throughout the tournament, finishing with two goals and three points. His skating ability and offensive skills were highlighted by both individual efforts—splitting defenders for one goal—and positioning near the net for another score.

“Some Melovsky Matinee Magic,” commented the New Jersey Devils’ official account.

Nathan Lecompte was recognized as one of the most productive players for New Jersey during this event. As an unsigned invitee, he recorded four goals and five points over three games, including a three-point performance in the opening match.

Additional notes from tournament play include Jakub Malek’s debut in North American hockey as goaltender, stopping 26 of 28 shots against Buffalo; Mikael Diotte returning from injury to score twice and add an assist versus Columbus; Tag Bertuzzi earning five assists across three games; and Seamus Casey contributing offensively while serving as a leader among younger prospects before being rested ahead of NHL training camp.

“Back on the Case,” noted the New Jersey Devils after Casey’s single-game performance.
