Cam Squires, a forward selected by the New Jersey Devils in the fourth round (122nd overall) of the 2023 NHL Draft, is preparing for the upcoming season after a strong performance in junior and professional hockey.
During the 2024-25 season, Squires played for Cape Breton in the QMJHL, where he appeared in 58 games and recorded 24 goals and 51 assists for a total of 75 points. This achievement marked a career high for Squires, leading his team and ranking him 15th among all players in the league. He also had an opportunity to play at the professional level with Utica in the AHL, where he scored one goal and three assists over three games.
Looking ahead to next season, Squires will attend the Devils’ training camp with hopes of earning a spot on the NHL roster. Reflecting on his approach to camp and his future with the organization, Squires said: “Any training camp, you’re trying to make the team. I’m not coming in just to (go to Utica). I’m going to come in, put my best foot forward, and then it’s in their hands. … Wherever they put me, you’re going to get the same player. I’ve worked my way up and it’s time for that next chapter and get ready for some pro hockey.”
Squires discussed his development and aspirations during an interview with NJD.tv.
